ok i know what i did was stupid but stupid me got board i just put on new brakes on my wrx. I drove it up and down my road a few times to make sure the brakes were working right. Anyways i stopped and held the clutch and brake and pushed on the gas at the same time for a few seconds in first gear and i was slowly letting out the clutch. After that some smoke started to come from under the hood. So i opened the hood and it smelled like burnt rubber and burnt plastic. I drove back to my house and brakes and clutch worked fine. Any ideas what it was. Need info thanks. and since i did this my car seems faster

wait, so you were stopped, clutch in, and you hit the gas and brake? That shouldn't make anything happen, thats just revving in neutral for all intents and purposes

Sounds like you let your clutch burn up just a bit.

Oh I didn't see that you let out the clutch with gas and break. That just seems like you burnt some clutch and breaks...not sure how that would harm the engine except for the fact that probably increased load on the motor.

I would vote on burning up your clutch some there.

Breaking in your brakes should be
reach 35mph, and hard brake to stop 3 times
Then goto 45mph and hard brake to stop 3 or more times.
thats how I break mine in, I have had no issues with that method.

My break in method:

Go 30, brake hard but smoothly, come down to about 5mph, dont stop
Go 40, brake hard but smoothly, come down to about 5mph, dont stop
Go 50, etc
Go 60, etc
Finally go 30 again, brake etc. Then cruise around for 5 minutes to let your brakes cool off. It will smell horrible but works well.

The whole thing with breaking in pads or rotors is to NOT come to a complete stop. Any method that gets them hot without stopping the car is fine.

W3rd. Just driving around town for a while from stoplight to stoplight is enough to season your pads/rotors.

One rally team actually would break in their break rotors/pads by putting them on one of their wife's car and let her drive around town for a week before the race.
