PM Testes1010. He does great work and his prices are very reasonable, plus he supports the site as a site vendor! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Doesn't he do just open source? He asked for protune.

open source custom tune = protune. Its still a basemap for the car dialed in to his specific mods and car. I'd absolutely get testes tuned if I were you. Thats what I did

When someone says protune to me, Cobb comes to my mind. I guess what matters is what kind of "Protune" this guy wants.

If you're in CT go to EFI Logics. They are great.

http://www.efilogics.com/

They charge $500 for protune (includes dyno time):

If I remember correctly you have an 04 WRX...here are some tunes from EFI on 04's:

STG1 Protune with MBC and TMIC (untuned vs. EFI Logics):

EFI has tons of happy customers. If you have an AP they're probably the place to go. There is no difference between open source and an AP, minus the $700 you drop for a tuning tool.

It's what COBB is calling e-tunes now. Tuner sends you a map, you install it and log, send him your logs, they tweak the map, and this continues until your happy. They are usually cheaper than an on-dyno tune but take longer.

They're also not as good since you're not supplying wideband data, but they're considered just fine on most normal setups that the tuner is familiar with. They're better than canned tunes, that's for sure.

this is mind boggeling... not as good? first off, if the shop uses a dynojet or dynapak then you are going to get a worse street running version then you would be going through the logs, if for no other reason then the sheer difference in load values between real driving and the dyno. and as far as not having wideband... that is situational. an LC1 from innovate costs around 150, using romraider, you can tandem log the wideband info into your normal set so you DO get everything. Plus you get the true engine load per RPM to know the correct setup to use in the real world.

I ma not saying that its ideal one way or the other, but you cant say that remote tuning is inferior by any measure. there is a place for everything, and personally I'd rather spend 150 or less and take a week to get everything ideal then spend 500 and hope I get treated right. Still never found a shop tuner that I've talked with that didn't come across as a total douche.. but thats a side story.... but they exist for a reason.

I'd go with Testes myself... and will again for my next tune within the next 2 weeks.
