Hello. I am new to the forum. I have an 02 wrx wagon that i just purchased. It has most of the go fast goodies covered. APS rotated mount turbo kit with FMIC.
The car came to me a bit beat up on the exterior and I am getting it ready to be re painted. I have some STI fenders from japan that I am planning on using but I would like to find some kind of matching flare / widebody kit for the quarter panels if they are out there. I'd be ok with either stick on or mold on just want something to balance the look. I have done lots of searching and am not finding anything. Your help is greatly appreciated. Steve |

What's your budget? Total for the exterior was 4k. Found Japan spec front fenders for 250. The flare is a little more agressive than a regular wrx and they have a side marker in them. I need to replace 2 doors and found used doors in great shape for 300 each. My friend is a body man and is helping me fix the bad quarter panel dog leg. There are a few small dents on the other doors and quarter but not bad. I need to cut the front bumper cover arround the FMIC a little cleaner. So prep is costing me 500 in materials and labor from my buddy so I have about 2500 left to spend on final prep & paint. Although I was quoted $1400 for that so I have about 1100 to play with to try do something with the rear quarters. Car is white and is getting painted a Blue tint pearl white color. I have seen others graft in sedan wrx quarters and use sedan wrx rear doors but I am not looking to go this route right now because I know it will cost a lot to make it correct. You could pick up some sedan rear fenders, cut off the oem fenders, and mold in the sedans. The run sedan rear doors, transfer your wagon windows into the sedan doors.
A few wagons have done it. It's intensive, but looks great. Nick -------------------- ![]() |

(IMG:http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/subarunew042.jpg) Found this wagon it has KAKUMEI wide body rear fenders and charge speed fronts. The fenders I have are from japan off an sti and stick out further than a USDM Wrx. I am not sure of the look so I guess if I need to go with different fenders I can sell what I have. |

Looks ricey to me.
I'd go this route: (IMG:http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h72/goldrush44/suby010.jpg) From: http://seccs.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1...ders#post101865 Or just go crazy with a fender roller and do the easy front WRX sedan fenders: (IMG:http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/356/18x10s4lw1.jpg) From: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread...ize+does+matter I'm not really a fan of sedan fenders on a wagon though. -------------------- |

Anyone know anything about that red wagon? That looks like Chuckanut Drive south of Bellingham, WA, and I never saw it running around town. But then one of the mags stopped on Chuckanut and took pics of the Audi R8 when they were getting paid to do a 'round the country road test (lucky bastards!!) in the thing.
I like the Wald IS300 flares (the black ones), but I think they're unobtanium now as they're discontinued--that was the rumor on a Lexus forum anyway. So, as much hassle as it is, the reg wag's use of sedan fenders--which then requires sedan bumpers and rear door skins--may be the most accessible way to do it these days. After all, find a wrecked Suby sedan of whatever kinds and poach the parts you need--get the suspension bits and axles too, you'll need 'em to do the job right. *If* you found junk yard parts *and* had a hookup on the body work, it *might* be doable for about $1k. This looks uber nice and OE-ish... me likey!! BTW, I've been hoping for seven-years that someone would hit me and provide the need (and insurance money) to make this mod on my wagon. I've had good/bad luck and so I'm still running slab sided on my wagon. :^/ Also, there's a black wagon at work with sedan front fenders and and regular rear fenders and it looks great up front, it looks fine from the rear, but the front-to-rear view isn't balanced. So, personally, I would much rather go with very aggressively rolled fenders than the 50/50 look. In fact, that's probably what I will end up doing eventually. -------------------- |

Wish we could just slap some fender flares on and call it a day. Stupid rear doors.

There's a lot of years where the wagon's body panels would work if someone designed a specific flares. My wag's 7-year-old now (!!), that's when people start thinking about doing all kinds of crazt shyt... like cutting fenders. Common, somone's gotta know someone with polyeurethane prototyping skills that knock these out. The IS300 guys had them and they're a lot smaller of a market! Ah well, I think that rolled fenders are in my future.

there was a company.... MZM or somthing that took a widebody sedan kit (8 piece) and could make it for a wagon (if they had it in their hands). not cheap, but done right and not like the red one.. the red one looks forced.
no, I remember who it was now, they used to be a site sponsor. Method madness or something. Method 4 motorsports! thats who it was. I was chatting with them for a bit, but had no chance at getting the cash for it. think it was 6k for body, body work, and paint.... but it was a sick design. if I ever get money... flares dont look that great, but I have not seen any that appealed to me, I think like mentioned above, the sedan fenders being worked in with sedan doors would be ideal with sedan front. Figured it was time for an update. I got a wide body quarter panel kit. The only ones I was finding were sedan specific. We made this kit fit the wagon with minor modification to the tail ends of the quarter panel sections. But the fuel door hinge is very different between the sedan and wagon so the first thought was to shave the fuel door and put the filler in the car. But in the end we have it working with a linear actuator that pushes the door out and open with the flip of a switch. It's very cool.

The wagon rear bumper was easy to get to line up with the widebody. It looks good with the JDM STI fenders on the front. There are also some nice sideskirts and a midwing being added to the build. The front bumper is stock Cut for FMIC with just a black aftermarket front lower lip. The car is being painted white with a blue ghost pearl in the clear. Should be painted by the weekend. Some nice Gold oZ wheels are going on as well as sti front brakes. This post has been edited by ESTURBO: Feb 8 2010, 11:08 AM |
