Alright so a couple days ago my car (2002 WRX) wouldnt start, I would turn the key and it would just click. So i would give it another try and it would start. Since then It has been getting progressivly worse. This morning I think it took about 35 tries to get it to start. So I drove to work. But then when I came out of work And tried it, It started right up. And then I just tried it now about 30 times and it started every time. This whole time my security system wont lock or unlock the doors. But if you hit the lock button on the door, and then close the door the system will turn on, and then it will go off If you reach in the window unlock the door and open it. But I dont understand. So My question is this. Is it possible that my security system is starting to screw up, and then it is not letting me start my car, or is the starter going out and the car, and I just need a new key fob? Any ideas guys?

It might be a security system issue. I've got on 02 wrx and mines been acting funny for awhile... When you use your key pad to lock and unlock does the light on the pad blink funny sometimes? I can't even lock my doors with mine anymore, have to use door lock. I tried changing battery, didn't help. Also when you were trying to start your car was the security light blinking on your dashboard?

The light blinks normally on the key fobb, And i Have changed the battery, nothing changed. And I dont think the security light was blinking when I try to start the car, but i wasnt necessarily watching for it. But next time I drive it I will have to check that out.

sounds like car battery or bad alternator, possibly. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/iono.gif)

I guess i could check the battery out, everything else in the car works fine, I have even sat in it for a 20 minutes listening to music and nothing starts to dim or go out. I was just thinking starter originally, but im glad someone said something i prolly would have just ignored it.

starter wouldnt make sense as the root cause given all the other stuff thtas going on. root cause = something that all of the issues have in common... ie battery.. and if the battery is fine that means the alternator isnt recharging it (or maybe it is recharging it some but its starting to go on you causing intermittent episodes). thats how I came to my conclusion but like I said... Were you trying to lock / unlock the doors with the remote while you were starting the car? I don't think the remote will work while the car is on.

no car was definitely off. all i did was unlock the car at first and it worked fine and then i tried to start it and all i got was a click, but all day today (since this morning) its been fine, no problems, the key fob still isnt working as far as locking or unlocking, but the car is starting fine. so i dont know.
