I have purchased some Farenheit super white xenon headlights for my 03 WRX. Ive had this type of bulb before in my Cougar with no problem. But now ive burnt up probably 4 headlight wiring harnesses in the past 4 months. It started with the driver side and i thought i took care of the issue and now it moved over to the passenger side. These bulbs are 12v 100/80W bulbs. Obviously they are getting too hot but i dont understand why this hasnt happend before. THey did originally work just fine for the first 4 months with no problems.

Um, those bulbs are too much wattage! I'd say perhaps you didn't have problems in the beginning because the connections were new but now that the wires are older they aren't conducting as well and getting hotter as a result. Perhaps your grounding points are getting old as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/iono.gif)
I'm no electrical genius but that makes sense to me in my limited knowledge. I do know that running overwattage bulbs is a BAD idea without upgraded wires to handle them and perhaps a relay near the bulbs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_twocents.gif) -------------------- NO TUNER, KNOW KNOCK.©™

We see this all the time at Honda. Customers put the blue 100w pep boys bulbs in there headlights and after a week they call up complaining that the headlights don't work. They bring the car in and the headlight harnesses are completely melted.
The proper headlight wattage is 80W and 55W for the foglights... -------------------- ![]() Check out our Vendor Section for Monthly Specials and Info on how to save 25% on all OEM parts and accessories!!! Click HERE to access our online parts catalog |

QUOTE (REX NFX @ Mar 24 2006, 04:51 AM) The proper headlight wattage is 80W and 55W for the foglights... Since when? Are you saying you CAN run 80W bulbs? The stock bulbs are not 80W AFAIK. I think they are 55 or 65. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/iono.gif) I ran 100W bulbs in my BMW back in the day. I had upgraded euro headlights and I had NO problems running them with my German wires (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) but the one stupid thing that did happen is that I decided to wash my car and the lenses were still hot on my headlights and as soon as the cold water ran off the hood and touched the headlight glass, CRACK!!!!!! It cracked. The 100W bulbs were HOT HOT HOT. You could put your hand in front of the lense about 6 inches away and you would have to move your hand away. The proper bulbs are 55/65w i believe.
You could build your own wiring harness for the lamps that can handle the higher wattages but then there's the chance of scoring the reflectors... -------------------- |

I don't own the car anymore, so I don't have the owner's manual with me, but if you want to look in it and find the bulb wattage and report back to prove me wrong, that would be great of you Ken.

What are the brightest recommended bulbs for WRX (04)? One of my fogs are out, so I figures I would replace them all. Anyonw know a good place on line to get these bulbs that you're going to recommend to me?

That table is from the 02-03 models that have the combined High/Low beam 9007 bulbs. Ken, look in your owners manual for the H1 bulbs and let me know the wattage (IMG:style_emoticons/default/neener.gif)
Edit: Nevermind...I found the info myself and they are 55w for the lowbeams This post has been edited by REX NFX: Mar 26 2006, 07:59 PM -------------------- ![]() Check out our Vendor Section for Monthly Specials and Info on how to save 25% on all OEM parts and accessories!!!
