Subaru let us set up our own fan area and they where also giving out tons of free stuff. I got like 3 shirts this weekend. deffinitly a diffrence from staged rally but this has tons of potential. The action was intence most notably the last AWD Heat where Pastrana started in 1st, Hit and tire wall and fell back to last.
Ok, so my wife's car has been making that noise at highway speed that is typical of a bearing going out & the steering wheel is shaking a bit at highway speed. I jacked up the car and did the standard rock the wheel test and didn't get anything, but I noticed that the driver's side front is wearing funny on the inside of the tire. None of the others are doing that.

Am I correct in assuming that the wheel that's wearing funny is the one with the bearing going out?

Goodbye to another Bugeye, hello STI?

As of yesterday I no longer own my WRX. My younger brother offered me money i could not refuse, and the car is sold.
I'm still a bit heart broken.

But on a happy note I have located a 04 STI with under 40k miles. And I can pick it up for about 14000!!! Yes, 14000.

The car does not run right, I went and looked at it today, and the car was modded at one time and stock stuff was put back on it.
Looking at the turbo on it, I could not verify the turbo on it, but it was clearly SMALLER than a vf39.
Not sure if thats the only issue. Hoping Testes can take a look at the log I got of it.
The IAM was 0.875 Which does not look promising.
The car idles fine, drives fine until you hit about 3800 rpm and there is no power and is hesitates very badly.
The log froze, but the boost was not going above 13psi.

I need to figure out if this is something I wanna get into or not.
Looking for opinions!

Am I On the right path

Here goes, lets see if I can cover all my questions and not ask anything stupid. I just got my first subie and I love the way it drives and rides. It puts a smile on my face every time I turn the key.

With that said, I can see a few things that I would like to change/or improve.

I wanna maintain something close to stock ride quality I don't mind a little added NVH, But I don't wanna be jarring my teeth everytime I hit a pothole.

I have read all the stickys on suspension and feel like I have a good idea about what I am wanting to do and how to do it.

Here is a run down of planned upgrades in order of appreance.

1) Short Shifter and associated Bushing. (Not suspension but it has to be done first IMO)
2) Bushings
A)Steering rack bushings (The steering is a little light on the feel stock)
Rear Diff Bushings
C) Diff lock out bolts
D) Transmission crossmember bushings
E) Front Control Arm and Rear Trailing arm bushings
3) New Front Sway Bar with bushings and endlinks 25mm
4) New Rear Sway bar with bushings and endlinks 22mm
5) Group N Tops Hats

Should I go with an ALK.....is my upgrade list in the correct order???

I would love to lower the car a little to get rid of the gap but don't wanna spend the $1500-2000 on coil overs. I was thinking JDM STI Pink springs as they provide a small drop and I wouldn't have to replace my stock dampers immedietly.

Do I sound like I am on the right path to flattening out my cars handling?
I want the car to be a little more neutral and more connected feeling?

I know this may sound lame but how the hell do I measure the seats for brackets. There is just 4 screw holes on the bottom of the seats. Do I measure from screw to screw or just measure the dimensions of the seats from side to side. I have never worked with car seats before. And any help would be greatly appreciated so I can order the appropriate brackets and get these seats installed ASAP! Pics will follow but please advise!!

Next-Generation Subaru Boxer Coming this Year?

Subaru has announced plans to introduce their latest revision to the their popular boxer engine. This latest revision comes with 10% better gas mileage than the previous model which has been in use for the past 20 years.

Spokesman Nikkei Sangyo has said the new engine will be a horizontally opposed “boxer" type engine ranging between 2.0 and 2.5L. For the fuel conscious paired with a CVT transmission for even better mileage.

This engine may be a derivation of what Subaru recently displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show in their Hybrid Tourer Concept, a direct-injected (yay!), turbocharged 2.0L boxer.

Powertrain modifications in the next-generation line of vehicles would also get stop-start functionality with the CVT.

Source: Automotive News

View the full article

My Legacy thread

Oh, yeah. Spray on rubber coating similar to what's used on cheap pairs of pliers. Why? Because this stuff can be wiped off like Elmer's glue after it dries. It just peels right off leaving no evidence whatsoever.
The 08-09 Legacy has chrome wings that branch off of the center emblem seen here. For the last few days, I was tempted to pick up a can and try it. Today, it happened.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58902
2. Masked the front end quickly just for easier clean up. Again, if so desired, this isn't needed because it peels off like tape or can be taken off with a quick detailer and clean cloth. I did minimal prep. Wiped off water spots and that was about it. Didn't scuff the chrome or anything. If it peels or chips off, I'll get another can, remask it, scuff the chrome off and give it a better shot second time around.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58903
3. I wanted to keep the emblem for a little color so I masked it and cut around the perimeter with a sharp razor. I also pushed the plastic behind the grille with a putty knife so it would make a clean, sharp edge.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58904
4. First coat is on and drying. It lays like paint and keeps a gloss until it dries and turns flat/matte black.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58905
5. I learned a while ago to spray your coats at whatever intervals you feel necessary and remove the plastic and tape while damp or tacky. If youlet it dry too long, it forms a skin around everything and can be touchy to remove just the masking without the paint.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58906
6. Drying finish. This was probably 30-45mins after the 1st coat with a few touch ups in between. The directions say wait 30 between coats but I never do. There's a few runs. 1 on right side in the corner and a smaller one on the left but that doesn't bug me. I'll have to get some better pics in daylight tomorrow when it's 100% dry.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58907
And finally, a finished $20 DIY grille. It has a few flaws such as some rub off fell on the base and there's a couple runs. Plus now my Supertones are half black, half red. I should just blast them so it doesn't stand out but it's no big deal. If I ever get a different grille on, I'll make sure to paint them totally black at that point.
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58908
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58909
http://www.WRXFanatics.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=58910
